LYNN – Police are investigating a shooting early Sunday afternoon at the Curwin Circle public housing project.
The incident occurred at about 1:30 p.m. at 198 Curwin, off Holyoke Street in a neighborhood near Lynn Classical High School. Police taped off the area around the Lynn Housing Authority and Development residence, where there was a pool of what appeared to be blood on the ground.A neighbor, who declined to give her name, said she heard two men arguing and then heard about a dozen shots. LHAND employee Dave Raymond stood with police at the scene but declined to comment.
It was unclear if anyone was hit or injured in the incident. As of 2 p.m. Sunday, police had in custody Jacqux McKenzie, an 18 year-old Lynn man, and charged him with trespassing, according to police records.
Alie Cromwell, who identified herself as a friend of McKenzie?s and was in the lobby of the Lynn Police station Sunday night, said she received a phone call from McKenzie telling her that he was running away from gunshots, during which Cromwell said she could hear what appeared to be gunshots in the background.
Cromwell said McKenzie was only charged with trespassing, but police would not release him. Cromwell said she was concerned because she believes McKenzie has mental problems. Cromwell admitted she has a criminal record.
As of Sunday night police declined to release further details of the incident, citing an ongoing investigation, but they said they would have more information on Monday.
Meanwhile, there have yet to be any arrests as an investigation continues into two shootings early New Year?s Day that sent two men to the hospital. Police said they were trying to determine whether the incidents were related. One occurred on Congress Street, the other on Linwood Street in the early morning hours of Jan. 1.The Daily Item/Itemlive.com is following this story and will post additional information as it becomes available.
