St. Mary?s eighth grader Max McKay put in a good day?s work Wednesday in an 8-1 win over Coyle & Cassidy at Connery Rink.McKay recorded a natural hat trick, scoring three goals in the third period. He also picked up an assist on an Austin Frankel goal in the first period. Making the feat even more impressive is the fact he?s a defenseman.?He got off a couple of real good shots,” St. Mary?s coach Mark Lee said, noting that one goal came on a slap from the point and one on a rush. The Spartans (7-4-1) led 3-0 after the first period on goals by Jackson Allard, Frankel and Allard again. Allard finished with two goals and an assist. St. Mary?s didn?t let up in the second period with Chris Price and Dante Maribito (goal, 2 assists) doing the damage. The third period belonged to McKay, who scored 1:25 in, 12:42 in and again 12:58 into the period. Coyle & Cassidy?s Cam Dorsey spoiled the shutout with 49 seconds remaining.Bailey MacBurnie was in net for the first period and Ryan Borders for the final two.?It was a good confidence builder,” Lee said about the win. “They beat us last year. It was nice to respond with a solid win.”Winthrop 3, Danvers 1At Larsen Rink, the Vikings (6-4) avenged a 3-2 opening night loss to the Falcons. Chris Page gave Winthrop a 1-0 lead in the first period, but Danvers? Kevin Hodgkins tied it up in the second. Ray Feeley (22 saves) got the win in net.?This was huge for us,” Winthrop coach Dale Dunbar said. “They beat us 3-2 opening night. They?ve had our number.”Dunbar said one of the differences in the second go-round with Danvers over the first is that he was missing three starters the first game. One was out with a shoulder injury and two with concussions. They?re all back now.Weymouth 5, Peabody 3At Weymouth, the Tanners (3-7) were in this one the whole way. Mike Vadala had two goals, both in the second period, and J.T. Eason had one. Eason?s goal tied the game at 3-3 with seven minutes remaining.
