The combined Winthrop/Lynn/Saugus girls hockey team scored four first period goals on the way to a 6-1 win over Masconomet Thursday at Larsen Rink in Winthrop. The Bulldogs are off to an 8-1 start with Medford next on the schedule.Winthrop/Lynn coach Anthony Martucci said the two teams play each other every year and Masco has always been very tough. Martucci recalled how his first year coaching, his team defeated the Chieftains in a shootout to advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament.?They?re a very, very good team. They?re well coached and tough,” he said. The Bulldogs came out flying in the first period with Savannah Norcross, Jillian Olevitz, Sydney Adamson and Katie Jeter all scoring. Masco got one back in the second period, but Winthrop?s Emma English (goal, 2 assists) bumped the lead back up to four with a little over four minutes left in the period.
