DANVERS – Former NFL quarterback Brian St. Pierre has been named the new head football coach at St. John’s Prep.St. Pierre, a 1998 graduate of the school who later went onto star as Boston College’s quarterback in 2001 and 2002, assumes the position held for the past 30 years by Jim O’Leary, whose retirement from coaching was announced Thursday by the school.St. Pierre led the St. John’s Prep Eagles to a football Super Bowl championship in 1997, and quarterbacked the BC Eagles to two bowl victories (including the Motor City Bowl in 2002, in which he was named the game’s MVP). He was drafted out of college by the Pittsburgh Steelers, one spot behind his BC center Dan Koppan, who was taken by the Patriots. He played for the Steelers, Arizona Cardinals, Philadelphia Eagles, Baltimore Ravens and the Carolina Panthers during a career that went from 2002 through 2010.
