The English High boys basketball team lost to BC High, 73-62, Monday in a BABC Winter Classic game at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury.The Bulldogs (8-2) managed to cut the Eagles? lead to five points with three minutes left, but BC High regrouped after a timeout and quickly bumped it back up to 10.English coach Mike Carr was disappointed by the loss and his team?s performance.?We just didn?t play well. BC High scouted us, they slowed us down. It was just one of those games,” he said. “It was extremely frustrating.”The Bulldogs had one of their top guys, Stevie Collins, back in action (he had been out injured), but it wasn?t enough to turn the tide. Collins finished with 13 points; Eric Rosario had 15 points and Dan Lukanda was good for 11 points.English is on the road for six games in a row. The Bulldogs play Classical on Wednesday.Gloucester 66, Tech 46At Lynn Tech, the Tigers dropped a non-league contest to the Fishermen despite a stellar performance from Mike Anaya, who finished with 17 points and eight assists. Tech is back at it today on the road against Northeast (3).Salem 56, Shepherd Hill 46At Salem, the Witches (8-1) turned up the heat a bit in the third quarter to put a little distance between themselves and Shepherd Hill. Salem held a slim 29-26 lead at the half. Rashad Keys continues to get it done for Salem. He had 24 points and 13 rebounds. Jamie Dominguez had 15 points and seven assists.GIRLS BASKETBALLLynnfield 48, Saugus 43At Lynnfield, Katherine Lawless scored 18 points and Ashley McRae contributed 11, including six free throws down the stretch that proved big. Lynnfield is 9-2, 6-2 Cape Ann League. The Pioneers need one more win to qualify for the state tournament. Norma Waggett, coming off a 48-point performance the other night, had 26 points in the losing effort for Saugus (2-10).Danvers 42, Malden 26At Danvers, the Falcons (7-4, 4-4 Northeastern Conference) bounced back from a tough loss to Revere thanks in part to strong play from point guard Delaney Zecha. Zecha had a season-high 10 points with six rebounds, eight steals and two blocks. Hannah Llewellyn had seven points.Winthrop 46, Somerville 27At Somerville, the Vikings (9-2) held the hosts under eight points in each quarter while Kristen Siscamanis led the way on offense, scoring a team-high 12 points. The visitors got 10 points from Theresa Jones as well as six apiece from four different players, including Ashelyne Babb.
