Boys Hockey: Marblehead shuts out Agawam for fourth straight victory

The Marblehead High hockey team rang up its fourth win in a row and second straight shutout with a 4-0 win over Agawam Monday at the Olympia Center in West Springfield.Matt Koopman led the way for Marblehead (9-3) with two unassisted goals.Cam McDonald and Eric Powers accounted for the other two goals.Marblehead was relentless, peppering the Agawam goalie with 54 shots.All three lines got into the scoring and the defense was airtight, with Liam Gillis, Colby Shepard, Kyle Koopman, Dan Gieniezcko, Alex Delento and Bryon Cohn.Agawam only got off 12 shots and there were no rebounds.Myles Barry picked up his first shutout.Peabody 2, Lincoln-Sudbury 2At McVann-O?Keefe Rink, the Tanners (3-8-1) got off to a strong start, taking a 2-0 lead on goals by Matt Pino (Mike Vadala and Don Shaw assists) and Jason Marshall (Chris Gillen, Bob Caproni assists), but Lincoln-Sudbury (8-1-3) stormed back to tie the game before the end of the first period.Neither team scored in the final two periods.?It was a good game,” Peabody coach Mark Leonard said. “It was up and down. Both teams had a lot of chances.”Peabody goalie Stephen Ferrante had 21 saves and Lincoln-Sudbury?s Derek Ashe, 24.Cohasset 5, Swampscott 0At Rockland, the Big Blue (1-10-1) had a strong game from junior goalie Trent Gallagher, who made 25 saves, and defenseman Max Cohen.?They?re a fast team. They?re three lines deep at forward and on defense,” Swampscott High coach Gino Faia said. “They?re a solid team.”Beverly 4, Westford Academy 2At Westford, the Panthers (12-0-1) had to come from behind in the third period to pull this one out of the fire.Beverly trailed 2-1 heading into the final period but Jack Straw scored to tie things up. Sean Munzing had the assist. Connor Irving supplied the go-ahead goal and then iced the game with an empty netter. Graham Doherty had the first Beverly goal.Beverly goalie Tim Borelli was solid in net with Nick Albano providing good defense in front of him.Beverly outshot Westford Academy, 26-14.Matignon 4, Bishop Fenwick 2At McVann-O?Keefe Rink, Jimmy Moore and Chris Napolitano scored for Fenwick, but the Crusaders couldn?t get a handle on Matignon?s John Andrews, who scored all four goals.Winthrop 2, Scituate 1At Winthrop, the Vikings got 24 saves from Ray Feeley and the game-winning goal from Johnny Orlando, on a shorthanded-breakaway in the second period.Winthrop led 1-0 after the first period on a tally from Chris Page (Pat Todisco, Stephen Goddard assists) before the Sailors evened things in the second period.Gloucester 1, Methuen 1At Methuen, Sal Costanzo, on assists from Casey Noyes and Liam Lyons, gave Gloucester (2-7-2) a 1-0 lead after two periods before the hosts got the equalizer midway through the final period.Owen Parisi made 26 saves for the Fishermen.In other hockey action, Amesbury defeated Danvers, 7-0, at Valley Forum in Haverhill and St. John?s Prep defeated Framingham, 4-0, at Loring Arena in Framingham.
