University of Massachusetts Boston sophomore Hulerie McGuffie of Lynn/Lynn Classical is off to another impressive season as a member of the women?s track and field team.McGuffie, a sprinter, was named the Little East Conference and ECAC New England Track Athlete of the Week following an excellent performance at the Ramapo College Indoor Select meet at the New Balance Armory in New York.McGuffie placed fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.02. She ranks second in the country in this event. Although McGuffie had been named the Little East Conference Athlete of the Week once before, this was her first time receiving the ECAC honor.St. Anselm College senior Courtney Winters of Swampscott/St. Mary?s was named the ECAC Women?s East Player of the Week for the period ending Jan. 19.Winters racked up seven points this past weekend. She had a hat trick and three assists in a win over New England College on Friday night and she had an assist in a 2-1 win over Castleton on Saturday. Winters leads her team in points with 22 (7 goals, 15 assists). She had 65 career goals and 59 career assists for 124 points. St. Anselm is 14-2 overall and 7-1 in the Northeast-10.Tori Faieta of Lynn/St. Mary?s was named the Spalding Northeast-10 Player of the Week in women?s basketball for the week ending Jan. 13.Faieta has brought home her share of accolades over the past few years, but this is a first for the junior. Faieta averaged 22.5 points, eight rebounds and 1.5 assists for the week she was honored. She also had a blocked shot. She shot 64.5 percent (20-for-31) from the field. She had a career-high 25 points in a win over Adelphi University. She followed that effort up with 20 points the following game against Pace.Jarell Byrd of Lynn/Lynn English recorded a career-high 21 points for the West Alabama University men?s basketball team in an 85-74 win over Lee in Gulf South Conference basketball recently. Byrd went 8-for-13 from the field (4-of-5 from 3-point territory). He also had eight rebounds.?Jarell was really good for us in different ways,” head coach Mark Downey said in post-game comments. “He just put up a highlight reel in the first half, and when I recruited him, I didn?t know he could do some of that. He is special and he keeps improving.”
