CHELSEA – A judge ordered a Revere man held on an alleged probation violation and $1,000 cash bail for allegedly strangling his girlfriend to the point where she passed out.Anthony E. Spinney, 27, of 57 Oak Island St. #3, Revere, was arrested and charged with assault to murder; and assault and battery; at 7:26 a.m. Monday. He appeared in Chelsea District Court Tuesday where a plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf.Revere Police said officers responded Saturday to the girlfriend’s home after an argument between Spinney and his girlfriend turned physical. Spinney allegedly fled the scene when police arrived and officers were applying for a warrant for the charges.But Spinney returned to the home early Monday morning and he was arrested.Prosecutors requested $25,000 cash bail for the new charge as well as an order that Spinney stay away and not abuse the alleged victim, according to Suffolk District Attorney spokesperson Jake Wark. The probation department also requested Spinney be held for a potential violation. Judge Matthew Nestor ordered $1,000 cash bail on the new case and ordered the defendant to not abuse the alleged victim. Nestor also ordered Spinney held for a probation surrender hearing for allegedly violating the terms of his probation on 2013 convictions of tampering with a fire alarm; larceny; resisting arrest; and assault and battery on a public employee; Wark said.Spinney is scheduled to return to court Feb. 21.
