REVERE – Michael Dreeszen’s corner three-pointer gave surging Revere a 66-62 victory over Swampscott (2-10, 1-8 NEC Small) at Roland Merullo FieldHouse on Friday night.Jason Siegal and Dreeszen led Revere (5-7,2-6 NEC Large) with 14 points each. Michael Ciambelli added 11 points for the Patriots.”We just put in a play last night to try to free up Dreeszen to get more shots,” said Revere head coach Adam Rizzo. “He has not been getting enough shots lately and he is so big for our offense.”Swampscott fell behind early, but Chad Nelson (24 points and 15 rebounds) got the Big Blue back into the game in the fourth quarter. Nelson scored 21 points in the second half. Guard Joey Ragusa provided Swampscott with a lift on offense in the first half with three shots from beyond the three-point line.Nelson gave Swampscott a 62-61 edge on a free throw with 44.1 seconds left in the game before Dreeszen’s shot. On the following possession, Ravi Ryland got a steal and sent a pass to Siegal before Siegal dropped in a layup in transition with 16.1 seconds remaining. Swampscott’s three-point attempt fell short after a timeout.Revere used an 18-5 spurt as the Patriots held a 24-11 advantage with 51/2 minutes left in the second quarter.Ben DiGullio (five points) and Camilo Gomez Giraldo (six points) came off the bench to combine for 11 points. Ciambelli made a buzzer-beating shot in the paint as Revere went into the locker room with a 35-21 lead. Swampscott committed 12 turnovers and were unable to take advantage of their size with their entry passes into the paint.”At halftime, we talked about not bringing it in the first half,” said Swampscott head coach Dave Born. “You can’t ease into these games. We gave up a bunch of layups in the first half.”Swampscott went on a 7-2 run to cut their deficit to nine points at 37-28 before Revere took a timeout with about six minutes left in the third quarter. King put in a layup before Nelson and Ragusa drilled open three-pointers.”We tried going box-in-one for a while,” said Rizzo. “We didn’t rotate, we didn’t box out, and we just weren’t moving.”Revere played with a faster pace and produced in the open court. Swampscott still trailed by 10 points (48-38) going into the final quarter.Nelson made a couple of jumpers early in the fourth quarter. Ben Faulkner and Andre Reeves nailed a couple of treys as Revere had a tenuous 50-48 lead. Dreeszen nailed the first of his three shots from beyond the three-point line in the closing stretch. Swampscott took their first lead of the game at 56-54 when Reeves made a layup in transition.”In the second half, we brought it, but it was too little, too late,” said Born.
