Boys Hoop: Peabody stages rally, tops Swampscott in OT

Peabody edged Swampscott, 67-61, in overtime at Swampscott on Tuesday.Peabody?s Jared McCarron buried a three with three seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime, where the Tanners outscored the Big Blue, 8-2.Swampscott led 44-31 at the half, but Peabody (5-8) rallied in the third quarter, outscoring the Big Blue 16-4. Joe Ragusa had 15 points for Swampscott, all in the first half. Andre Reeves had nine points, the biggest two coming with 11 seconds left when he hit two free throws to put Swampscott up, 59-56.McCarron finished with 14 points, three coming in overtime. Matt Correale led all scorers with 23 points (7 rebounds) for the Tanners. Bob Sullivan had 12 points, including four in overtime, and Brian Onessimo had seven rebounds.?It was a great high school basketball game,” Peabody coach Thad Broughton said.Swampscott is 2-11.?We struggled big time in the second half,” Swampscott coach Dave Born said. “They did a good job in their two-three shutting us down.”Revere 66, Winthrop 43At Winthrop, the Patriots (6-7) got a lift off the bench early from Tom Chea (5 points) and Camila Gamez (5 points). Revere spread the scoring around with 12 players getting into the action. Jason Seigal had 14 points and Doug Zingali, eight points. It was the defense, however, that was the biggest difference.?The defense won us the game,” Revere coach Adam Rizzo said. “The defense was a constant presence, forcing turnovers.”Rizzo said Winthrop packed it tight in the zone in the second half and that opened up the Patriots? outside game.?We started hitting some threes,” he said.
