BOSTON – The 2014 USS Constitution Model Shipwright Guild Exhibit opens Saturday and runs through March 22 at the USS Constitution Museum at the Charlestown Navy yard in Boston. The exhibit features over 100 mini-masterpieces from the last decade. For 35 years members of the Model Shipwright Guild have amazed those of us less adept (and less patient) with their talented craft. If you have ever wondered, “How do they get that ship in a bottle?” or “How long does it take to build a model ship?” Guild members will be on hand to answer your questions and demonstrate the technique, time and skill required to build a model.New this year are eight maritime artworks to be displayed alongside the models. The art was created by members of the American Society of Marine Artists.Professional ship model conservator, Rob Napier, will be on hand to clean and restore a late 19th century model of the USS Constitution from the museum’s collection that was built by one of her crew members, every Wednesday from 11-3 p.m.Admission to the model show is free. Admission to the museum is by donation.
