The Bishop Fenwick swim team capped off a memorable season with an impressive showing at the Catholic Central League Championships on Saturday afternoon at Lynn Tech, finishing second out of eight teams.St. Mary?s finished seventh. The Spartans? top finisher was Erik Whitcomb, who won the 50 free in 25:10. Other Spartans who stood out included: Eve Smith, fourth in the 200 IM; Whitcomb, third in the 100 free; the 200 free relay team, fifth (Smith, Hannah Walker, Maggie Carroll and Whitcomb); Smith, seventh in the 100 backstroke; the medley relay, fourth (Smith, Sophia Gomes, Walker and Whitcomb) and the 400 free relay team, eighth (Rebecca Kirby, Theresa Klosiewicz, Gomes and P.J. Hatchouel).The Crusaders accumulated 361.5 points on the day, trailing only Austin Prep, who took first with 391.5. Arlington Catholic (323) placed third.Fenwick, who finished with a 7-0 record in regular season meets, got two record-setting efforts from Carson Christuk, who broke a personal best and the Lynn Tech pool record in the 200 IM with a 2:02.13.Christuk would follow the accomplishment with a 1:02.35 in the 100 breaststroke, breaking a four-year old meet record. Younger brother Connor was also a double winner for the Crusaders, taking first in the 100 freestyle (54.01) and 500 freestyle (5:09.92).In team action, the Fenwick 200 medley relay squad, featuring both Christuks along with Bridgette Townsend and Pablo Jimenez, took first with a 1:55.58. The Crusaders also won the 200 freestyle relay with the elder Christuk, along with Tom Delaney, Nicole DiMeglio and Linsey Andrews combining for an impressive 1:51.31.Andrews would place third in the 200 IM and fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:05.84) while Jimenez added a fourth place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:21.07).The Fenwick boys and girls will split up to end the season at their respective North Sectional tournaments. Both Christuks head to Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Saturday while Andrews, Townsend, DiMeglio, Justine Armand and Virginia Ambeliotis will compete at Wellesley College.WRESTLINGPioneers at Saturday QuadThe Lynnfield wrestling team went 3-0 on Saturday morning in Durfee, picking up wins against the host squad (63-12), Dighton-Rehoboth (77-6) and Braintree (72-3). The Pioneers upped their overall record to 34-3 with the sweep.Jay Carnevale picked up a win at 285 against Durfee?s Andre Torres, who entered the meet as the No. 4 ranked wrestler in the state.
