Caldwell College senior forward Jeanette Anderson of Lynn hit another milestone recently. The former English High standout notched her 1,000th college rebound last week in a 72-62 win over Nyack College.Anderson, who surpassed the 1,000 career-point milestone last year as a junior, has been having a banner final season for the Cougars. In the win over Nyack, she had 22 points and a career-high 21 rebounds. This week she was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women?s Basketball Player of the Week — for the fourth time.English High girls basketball coach Fred Hogan and Jim Ridley, the former Lynn Tech principal/boys basketball coach who coached Anderson in AAU, planned a trip down to Caldwell last weekend thinking they would be there when she collected her 1,000th rebound, but Anderson, who needed 11 rebounds, moved the timetable up a game when she pulled down 21 against Nyack.Hogan and Ridley still made the trip on Saturday, as did Anderson?s mother, Betty Anderson. They were all there for a pregame ceremony that the college put on honoring Anderson?s accomplishment. She?s only the third Caldwell women?s player to hit the milestone.?They had a real nice ceremony,” Hogan said, adding that the cake they presented her also noted that she had pulled down 1,000-plus rebounds during her days at English High.Anderson ended up scoring 19 points Saturday in a loss to Philadelphia University. In two games last week she averaged 20.5 points per game, 14 rebounds and 1.5 blocks. Overall she?s averaging about 20 points and 10-11 rebounds per game.?To average 20 points per game as a forward in college is something special,” Hogan said.Hogan said when Anderson comes home over break, she makes a point to get over to English to talk to the current crop of players about college basketball and college life. Anderson, who majored in communications, will graduate this year.Although this is Anderson?s final year as a player at Caldwell, the Cougars will continue to have a Lynn connection next year when St. Mary?s guard Sharell Sanders comes to town. Sanders is one of three St. Mary?s players this year who will be playing at the college level next year, the other two being Brianna Rudolph (the University of Massachusetts Lowell) and Jennie Mucciarone (Tufts University).
