SAUGUS – Town Meeting member Christopher Finn said he is considering a run against state Rep. Donald Wong this November. The attorney, a 28-year-old Democrat, took his first elected seat last November to represent Precinct 9, earning one of the highest percentages of votes in the election, but he?s also served in Saugus on the Economic Development Committee, the Affordable Housing Trust and as an alternate on the Zoning Board of Appeals, in addition to founding his own law firm, Finn & Eaton, P.C.Now Finn has his eyes on a higher prize to represent Lynn and Wakefield, in addition to Saugus, where he said he was born and raised. He confirmed Tuesday that he was in the stages of “getting around and meeting people in Wakefield, Lynn and Saugus and finding what kind of support would be out there.”Finn said he knows it could be a tough race because Wong “is so well-liked in the community,” but he has a different vision for how voting at the state level could help the communities.Among his ideas, Finn said he would like to play a more active role in getting a new Saugus High School in the town and make sure surrounding communities of the proposed casinos get the right benefits to offset any potential impacts. He said he wanted to focus on “the efficiency of how tax money is spent,” tax rates increasing but state aid decreasing in Lynn, Saugus and Wakefield.?I?m young, but I?m excited and motivated,” said Finn. “It?s a matter of finding support in the other communities – do they share the same vision I have and have the same concerns for their communities.”Finn said he has a lot to consider with a 5-week-old baby at home, so support from his wife is a defining factor. He has no deadline for an official announcement but said he will mostly likely make his decision “in the coming weeks.”
