Roundup: Classical girls basketball comes up short against Beverly

The Beverly High girls basketball team officially has Classical?s number after defeating the Rams for the second time in less than a week. The Panthers won, 47-41, at Classical.Classical led by five at the half and three after the third quarter, but the Rams couldn?t keep the Panthers down in the final quarter. Classical is 10-8 and still needs a win to qualify for the tournament. The Rams play Peabody on Friday.Heidi Milhem had 13 for the Rams and Chenysse Hill, 12. Kristin Lauria, who has been battling knee issues, was back in the lineup.?Kristin Lauria is a warrior,” Classical coach Tom Sawyer said. “She?s playing on a banged up knee.”The Panthers shot the ball well, with Natalie Millinger leading the way with 19 points.Lynnfield 72, Randolph 33At Randolph, the Pioneers (14-3) had four players in double figures led by Katherine Lawless (17 points), Samantha Filipe (13 points); Toni DiCesare (11 points) and Emma Mancini (10). Lynnfield plays Malden today.Belmont 62, S’scott 44At Belmont, the Big Blue got a team-high 10 points from Jamie Caponigro in a loss to the Marauders. Jackie Walsh added six points for Swampscott (5-10).BOYS BASKETBALLM.C. 65, S. Mary?s 57At Malden, the Spartans fell to 12-4, despite a game-high 18 points from Anthony Silfa. St. Mary?s got 16 points from Dennis Bailer, but only drew 10 fouls in the game, which it trailed 35-28 at halftime.St. John?s 71, BC High 61At Danvers, the Eagles got off to a slow start, trailing 19-4 early. They battled back to take a 30-29 lead at the half. Mike Bisson had 17 points in the win, with Max Burt chipping in with 14 points and Kareem Davis, 11 points. Spencer Danforth had two big threes and played good defense on Jack Loughnane, who had nine points after torching the Eagles for 24 points earlier in the season.WRESTLINGSaugus 43, Minuteman 24At Minuteman Tech, the Sachems (7-9-1) had wins from Mike Titus (106 pounds) by pin; George Rodriguez (132) by decision; Mark Chamberlain (145) by pin; Seth Roy (152) major decision; Gardy Pierre (160) by pin; Luke Surette (220) pin and heavyweight Ray Meiggs, by pin.GYMNASTICSMhd. 131.65, Win. 128.8At Marblehead, the Magicians (7-3) had a big night from Chase Davies, who won all-around with a 35.95. She won vault with a 9.3 and bars with an 8.8 and beam with a 9.35. She tied for second on floor with an 8.5 with Sarah Caulfield. Erin Horgan took third on floor with an 8.3 and Caulfield took third on beam with an 8.2.
