The Lynn Jets put another one in the win column, defeating Weston, 6-1, Monday at the Rivers School?s MacDowell Ice Arena.The Jets (13-5) took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter on goals by Ryan MacDonald and Alex Amico. Tony Uva scored early in the second period to extend the lead to 3-0 before Weston found the net. Lynn finished strong with three third-period goals, including MacDonald?s second of the night and single tallies by Mark Brazell and Caleb Reddick. “I thought we were focused tonight,” Lynn Jets coach Joe Conlon said. “We came in with a purpose, achieved our goal. We played a complete game. It was a good win.”Patrick Finnigan had two assists with Amico, Corey Wojewodzic, MacDonald, Brandon Devin, Dan Rustani and Andre Gaudet contributing one each. Jack Stafford (15 saves) was in net for the win.Lynn plays Winthrop Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Connery Rink.GIRLS HOCKEYWinthrop/Lynn 2, Beverly 2At Larsen Rink, Lynn eighth grader Savannah Norcross turned in another stellar performance for the combined Winthrop/Lynn/Saugus girls hockey team, scoring both goals in the tie.Winthrop and Beverly have been battling for the top spot in the Northeast Hockey League. With the tie, coach Anthony Martucci said he believes Winthrop (11-3-1) is in first place by virtue of its head to head record against Beverly. Winthrop won the first meeting between the two teams, 1-0. Both teams have one loss and one tie.Norcross got things going eight minutes into the game when she picked off a pass and scored top shelf off a wrist shot. Beverly tied things up midway through the second period when Winthrop failed to clear the puck, opening the door for a goal by Nicole Woods from Julia Nearis. Winthrop went up 2-1 at 6:18 of the second period on Norcross? second goal of the night (Caroline McKinnon assist). Beverly managed to salvage the tie when Nearis scored with the assist going to Woods.?Savannah has been everything for us this year,” Martucci said.This year?s two meetings with Beverly were very similar to last year when Beverly defeated Winthrop, 1-0, in the first game and then the teams battled to a scoreless tie in the second.Gretchen Howard was in net for the Bulldogs. He also cited the play of his defense, Cat Salvetti, Katie Jeter, Kasey Harris and Gabby Kenniston.Fenwick 3, Cape Cod 2Fenwick 3, Cape Cod 1At Hockeytown, Fenwick picked up its first two wins in the program?s three-year history this weekend when it played host to Cape Cod Tech/Nauset at Hockeytown in Saugus. The Crusaders lost to the Cape Cod team, 3-2, the last two times they met, but turned it around this time.Fenwick won 3-2 on Saturday with goals from Megan McGunigle, senior captain Nina Groom of Swampscott and freshman Meaghan Carney of Peabody. Peabody delivered the winner with 2:36 left in the game.On Sunday, which was Senior Day, Fenwick defeated Cape Cod/Nauset 3-1 and it was McGunigle supplying all the offense. McGunigle scored all three goals (her younger brother, Greg, had a hat trick for the Fenwick boys hockey team over the weekend as well). Sophomore Meghan Woodworth had a stellar weekend in net for the Crusaders, who are 2-13-1. Fenwick?s final game is Wednesday at home against Matignon.?This (picking up the two wins) was great for our program,” coach Doug Anderson said. “We?re heading in the right direction.”Anderson said the team only had seven returning players this year and many of the new players were new to the sport as well.
