School Roundup: Peabody impresses at D1 State Meet

The Peabody boys and girls track teams competed at the Division 1 State Meet at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury on Monday afternoon.In boys action, the Tanners had an impressive showing in the 2-mile, where Drew Fossa (9:41.89) and Marcelo Rocha (9:43.46) finished sixth and eighth, respectively. Peabody?s 4×800 relay squad of Alex Greco, Cody Picardy, Ben Braz and Michael Ricci placed fifth (8:16.76) out of 16.Greco added an eighth place finish in the mile (4:30.87) while Alex Bunal finished tenth in the high jump with a 5-10.The Lady Tanners were highlighted by two fifth place finishes from Katie Gallo in the shot put (32-5) and Antonia Pagliuca in the 2-mile (11:30.40), who finished just ahead of teammate Sam Allen (11:33.21, seventh).Peabody got a ninth place finish from its 4×800 relay team (10:09.32), consisting of Emily Christianson, Alyssa Shashaty, MacKenzie Picardy and Carrera Dean. The Tanners also featured a tenth place performance from Macayla Lachance in the 600m (1:43.71).BOYS HOCKEYBeverly 8, Peabody 1At Peabody, the Tanners led 1-0 after one period on a J.T. Eason tally before the Panthers recovered for eight unanswered goals. Beverly (18-0-1) got a goal and five assists from Connor Irving as well as two goals apiece from Nick Albano and Jesse Maclaughlin. Peabody (5-12-2) hosts Marshfield this afternoon while Beverly travels to Weymouth on Wednesday.Marblehead 2, Amesbury 2At Newburyport, the Magicians fell in a shootout and must settle for a consolation match-up with Bishop Fenwick at the Newburyport Bank Classic. Marblehead led 2-0 after two period on goals from Dean Fader and Erik Powers before the Indians tied things in the third.Fenwick lost to Masconomet, 5-1, in the early game.
