The Marblehead High boys basketball team overcame a 10-point deficit at the half to defeat Concord-Carlisle, 48-43, and win the annual Brad Sheridan Tournament Wednesday at Marblehead.Marblehead coach Mike Giardi said if you told him before the game his team would hold Concord-Carlisle to only 24 first-half points he would have said that?s great — but only scoring 14 was a problem.?We were trying to get rid of the ball and shoot it too quickly,” he said. “We calmed down, got into a good rhythm and started running the offense better.”Things got a little dicey in the final seconds. Marblehead led 44-40, but Concord-Carlisle hit a three to cut the lead to one. Marblehead went on to miss the front end of a 1-and-1 and Concord had the ball back with eight seconds left. The visitors tried slicing to the basket and drawing the foul, but they didn?t get it. Marblehead got the rebound, got fouled and when the opposing coach received a technical for arguing the no-foul call on his player?s drive, Marblehead ended up making two foul shots and two more on the technical.Matt Millett finished with 15 points, Spencer Craig with 11 and Will Millett with nine. Marblehead is 11-9.Martha?s Vineyard 64, Fenwick 55At Dedham, the Crusaders (10-10) led by six at the half and were tied after three, but turnovers proved costly down the stretch. Matt Costello had 16 points and Dom Luoni, 14 points. The Crusaders play Dedham today in the consolation game of the Dedham Holiday Tournament.Everett 60, Salem 52At Everett, the Crimson Tide led 30-29 and then opened up some breathing room in the second half. Salem cut the lead to as low as four at one point, but couldn?t get over the hump.Rashad Keys had 19 points for the Witches and David Kazadi had 18 points and 11 rebounds. Salem also had strong play off the bench from Joel Nunez (5 points). The Witches, who are 16-4 (16-6 counting two exclusion games), were without Jamie Dominguez due to a thumb injury. He is expected to be ready for the state tournament.Gloucester 62, Tech 44At Gloucester, the Tigers dropped their final contest of the season despite a team-high 21 points from senior Odell Tiggs. Tech (2-18) got 16 points from Michael Anaya in the loss while the Fishermen were led by Andrew Muniz, who poured in 24 points. Drew Shairs added 12 points for Gloucester.GIRLS BASKETBALLPeabody 64, Medford 36At Medford, the Tanners (15-5, 11-4 Northeastern Conference) led by 13 at the half but Medford hung around, knocking it down to 11 in the fourth quarter. Senior Carolyn Scacchi finished with 25 points (6 assists, 12 rebounds, 3 steals, 3 blocks); other contributors included Sara Hosman (11 points, 5 steals) and Olivia Summit (8 points).Burlington 64, Swampscott 34At Burlington, lone senior Jacqui Walsh (8 points) led the way for Swampscott in its final game of the season. The Lancers led 5-1 after the first period.St. Mary?s scored first on a Jordan Manthorne goal (Max McKay assist) two minutes into the game, but Malden Catholic responded with seven unanswered goals.St. Mary?s will play Needham today at 3 p.m. in the consolation game of the Springfield Tournament.
