PEABODY – A judge ordered $2,000 cash bail in addition to a previously posted $1,040 cash bail for a Whitman man who police caught with 18 pounds of marijuana in a Newbury Street apartment.Beau Powers, 26, of 27 Ellis Ave., Whitman, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute Class D drugs; on Wednesday. Powers posted $1,040 cash bail set by a bail clerk on Wednesday night and walked into Peabody District Court Thursday for his arraignment on the charge, according to Essex District Attorney Spokesperson Carrie Kimball-Monahan.A plea of not guilty was entered on Powers’ behalf.The Peabody Police Criminal Investigations Division initiated the investigation and obtained a search warrant for 286 Newbury St. #93, according to a police press release dated Wednesday. Officers with the Drug Enforcement Administration, Essex County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit and Lynnfield Police assisted in executing the search warrant Wednesday from which police reported seizing 18 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $72,000.A judge ordered $2,000 cash bail on the charge and that the $1,040 cash bail posted Wednesday remain, according to Kimball Monahan. Powers is scheduled to return to court April 2.
