SAUGUS – The Nutrition Department at Greater Lynn Senior Services (GLSS) invites the public to a nutrition workshop presented by Paula Cerqueira, nutritionist from City Fresh Foods, on Thursday from 1:30?3 p.m., at the Saugus Council on Aging, 466 Central St.”Participants will learn the best ways to fuel their bodies with the nutrients needed to stay healthy and energized throughout the day,” Cerqueira said. “The program will touch on good nutrition in general but will be of particular interest to older adults or people who care for an older adult.”The seminar is just one of a number of special events and activities being sponsored by GLSS in celebration of National Nutrition Month in March.”Our motto for the month is ?Eat Healthy, Be Healthy’ – it’s our new take on the old saying ?You Are What You Eat,'” says GLSS’ nutrition director, Derek Anderson, who oversees the meals programs for people age 60 and older in Lynn, Lynnfield, Nahant, Saugus, and Swampscott, including Meals on Wheels. The meals are provided by Boston-based City Fresh Foods, which creates wholesome, great-tasting meals with fresh ingredients, many of which are purchased from local farms. Hot, healthy lunches are served every weekday for a small donation at a number of congregate meal sites – or community cafés – located in local senior centers and some senior housing sites. In addition, GLSS delivers Meals on Wheels every weekday to homebound, isolated seniors in its five-town area.”Our mission is to help older adults live independently, safely and with dignity, in the community settings of their choice, and our meals programs are one of the most important ways GLSS helps people achieve that every day,” Anderson notes. Through the broad range of programs provided – including in-home assistance, meals, transportation, and many others – more than 3,000 people depend on GLSS every day.
