Two Classical High runners are heading for the land down under this summer.Jennifer Gaudet and Anna Wargo, both members of the Rams? indoor and spring track teams, are participating in the Down Under Sports Track and Field Tournament in Australia. The tournament, run by International Sports Specialists, Inc., is designed to provide athletes from various countries a chance to compete head-to-head in their chosen sports, which for Gaudet and Wargo is track. The two have excelled for the Rams and have qualified to run in the state meets in several events. Gaudet?s focus this winter had been in the 300 meters and as a member of the 4 x 200 relay team. She competed in both events at the state level and finished in the top six in both at the Northeastern Conference Meet. In the spring, she has competed in the 100, 200, 400 and 4 x 100 relay. Wargo competed in the 55 meters, and as a member of the relay at the states in winter. She won the long jump at the NEC meet and was fourth in the 55 dash. Both Wargo and Gaudet are captains.?I?ve always been really interested in going further with my running career (beyond high school),” Gaudet said. “I want to extend it to running in college.”Gaudet said with the Australia trip, she?s excited about the prospect of meeting other athletes and college coaches.?It?s nice to get a chance to work with people you normally don?t get to work with,” she said. While in Australia, the girls will also get to do some sightseeing with one of the excursions a trip to the Great Barrier Reef. The trip will be held the first week in July. Both girls are currently trying to do some fundraising to help defray the costs. Along those lines, there will be a spaghetti dinner at the Porthole Pub on April 17 at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $10 per ticket. The girls are also selling raffle tickets for $5 each with the prizes being a book of $5 scratch tickets or the $750 cash equivalent, and a 39-inch LG flat screen television.Anyone who would like to sponsor Gaudet and/or Wargo can do so by going to: https://www.downundersports.com/ and clicking on the sponsor link.
