Election season is in full swing in Nahant and Swampscott.Monday was the last day to file nomination papers in Nahant and Swampscott closed its ballot Tuesday.Nahant is not a betting man’s game this year where candidates are all incumbents running unopposed.Richard Lombard has been in office for nearly two decades and is seeking another term on the Board of Selectmen. Incumbent Dave Conlin is vying against no one to remain the town’s moderator. Margaret Barile, Michael Kairevich and Christine Stevens are running to maintain their positions as town clerk, constable and library trustee, respectively. Likewise, Calvin Hastings and Thomas Donahue will retain their seats on the Planning Board, and Lissa Keane and Michael Flynn will hang onto their School Committee seats.According to Barile, Rose O’Malley did not take out papers seeking re-election to the Board of Assessors, leaving a vacancy and the chance for a write-in candidate to slip into the seat.In Swampscott, there are a lot of names on the ballot, but, outside Town Meeting, there is only one race and that is for the Board of Selectmen.Naomi R. Dreeben, Raymond Patalano and Laura Spathanas will vie for two seats on the Board of Selectmen. Also on the ballot will be Joseph Markarian Jr. hoping for re-election as moderator and incumbent William C. Sullivan III is running to keep his spot on the Board of Assessors.Gargi Cooper and Suzanne Wright aim to fill two open seats on the School Committee, Herrick Wales is running to fill a vacancy for the Trustees of the Public Library and Martha Dansdill is seeking re-election to the Board of Health. Clinton Bench and William A. Travascio are in a race for the Planning Board seat being vacated by Felix Zemel, and incumbents James L. Hughes and James Lombard are on the ballot for the Housing Authority.Nahanters will head to the ballot box and sit down for Town Meeting on Saturday, April 26, while Swampscott residents will vote their ticket on April 29.The last day to register to vote or change party affiliation is April 4 in Nahant and April 9 in Swampscott when both town clerk’s offices will remain open until 8 p.m.
