Mike Vecchione of Saugus has been named one of four finalists by league?s coaches for ECAC rookie of the year.A solid two way player with a plus 19 rating this season his .085 points per game ranked fourth among rookies in league action. He leads his team in face off wins at 250 and face off percentage at (.519) and has registered eight multiple point games during the regular season. He top twenty in the league in scoring and third on his Union team with a 10-19-29 in 32 games.Vecchione is a 2011 graduate of Malden Catholic, where he led the Lancers to the first of their four straight MIAA Division 1A hockey championships.While at MC, Vecchione signed on to play for the University of New Hampshire. However, he withdrew from the Wildcats? program, and enrolled at Union.Union eliminated Dartmouth to advance to the ESPN semifinal game this weekend in Lake Placid.Also, Union college is ranked second in the nation and expects to earn a spot in the regionals in Bridgeport, Conn. for a chance to play for the national championship.
