LYNN – Firefighters and police battled a three-alarm fire at a three-story home at 49 Henry Ave. that displaced six families.District Fire Chief John Barry said firefighters arriving at 7:16 a.m. found everyone out of building, as heavy fire climbed outside of the wood-frame structure from the second to third floor.Barry struck a third alarm by 7:29 a.m.According to Lynn Police, officers arriving on scene rushed into the building to evacuate residents but couldn’t make it to the third floor of the home due to thick smoke. Police said all tenants were evacuated safely and none were injured.The American Red Cross also responded to assist those displaced by the fire. According to an email from Kat Powers, Communication Director at the American Red Cross, 16 adults and four children received assistance from Red Cross workers.Powers said that the six families received food and clothing, including one family that was given winter coats. All six families received a kit with basic toiletries, and one family got assistance in the form of infant care supplies.Powers also said that the children received toys.Those wishing to help disaster relief by donating to the Red Cross may visit RedCross.Org/Massachusetts.The Item will report more information as it becomes available.
