The St. Mary?s girls lacrosse team pulled one out of the fire.The Spartans trailed 7-2 in the first half against Cardinal Spellman Monday, but they came back to win, 14-13, at Manning Field in a game that had plenty of drama down the stretch.St. Mary cut the deficit to one at the half and went up by a goal or two after the break, but Spellman didn?t back off and with just over a minute remaining, the Cardinals led, 13-12. The Spartans turned up the heat and with a minute left, Amanda Donahoe tied the game. Maggie Flaherty supplied the game-winner with about 30 seconds left.?It was a very exciting game, being down by that much and coming back to make it a game by the half,” St. Mary?s coach Al Eaton said. “In this sport, being down one or two goals doesn?t mean anything.”Flaherty had a very productive night, scoring five goals. Elizabeth Weisse had three, as did Hannah Walker. Katie Walker had three goals and Donahoe, two. Leenie Murphy and Donahoe were also effective on the draw. St. Mary?s is 2-0.Swampscott 13, Gloucester 7At Gloucester, Swampscott?s Maggie DiGrande had four goals with Lauren Sullivan and McKenzie Robertson each contributing three.
