SAUGUS – Town Meeting member Christopher Finn has announced that he will be running for state representative of the 9th Essex District this fall. The attorney and lifelong Saugus resident first voiced intentions to run in early February, but Finn officially confirmed his plan to run after pulling nomination papers recently. Finn intends to run as a Democrat against longtime incumbent Rep. Donald Wong at the election in November.Finn has plans for a mostly grassroots campaign that will involve a lot of walking around meeting voters from Saugus, Lynn and Wakefield.?I?ve already been walking the streets and hearing concerns,” said Finn. He said he?s heard of lot of complaints on the state of the local roads, riddled with potholes, and the traffic problems on Route 1, as well as concerns over the state of the Saugus school system and the amount of state aid the towns are receiving.Finn said if he is elected, he wants to bring those concerns to the state level to take action and address it by widening Route 1 or making classrooms more code-compliant.?It?s important to hear from everyone,” said Finn. “I wouldn?t be state representative for Democrats or Republicans, I would be the state rep for the ninth district. Whether or not I agree with what they have to say, I have to hear it. I take that to heart now as a Town Meeting member, and I hope to take that same approach to the State House.”Going forward, Finn?s priority is to obtain the signatures he needs for nomination and to launch a campaign website that will serve as a forum for voters to voice concerns and to read Finn?s background and talking points.?I hope to be as open as I can,” he said. “I believe in ethical politicians – open and available politicians.”
