LYNN – A judge ordered $10,000 cash bail for a city man police said tried to toss more than 18 grams of heroin while running from officers after a suspected drug deal.”As he looked directly at (Lynn Police Officer Michael) DiMeglio, (the suspect’s) eyes lit up and he took off running down the driveway of 13 Houghton St., which heightened our suspicions that a drug transaction had taken place,” Lynn Police Officer Stephen Emery wrote in a report.Ruddy Santana, 21, of 104 Grant St. #3, was arrested and charged with trafficking in heroin; possession of Class B drugs; and malicious destruction of property +$250; at 11:47 a.m. Tuesday. He was arraigned on the charge Wednesday in Lynn District Court where a plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf.Police in the area of Light and Summer streets Tuesday saw Santana, whom officers knew from a previous drug arrest, driving and watched as the defendant pulled over and got into another parked car, according to court records. Less than a minute later, Santana allegedly got out and walked back to his own vehicle. As police approached, Santana took off running.Santana allegedly dove over a fence and broke it, then began emptying his pockets before trying to climb the fence on the other side of a backyard. Police said they recovered two large bags of suspected heroin and a car key that Santana threw.Police reported finding Suboxone inside Santana’s car, and $435 cash and three cell phones on Santana.Police said the heroin totaled 19 grams, a gram above the 18 gram threshold for a trafficking charge.Judge James Wexler noted the commonwealth had a “strong case” against Santana, and the judge ordered the defendant held on $10,000 cash bail.Santana is scheduled to return to court May 2.
