The English baseball team opened its season on the road against Salem Wednesday night. English senior pitcher Michael Troy stymied the Salem bats, as the Bulldogs defeated the Witches 11-1.Troy went the first five innings, allowed one hit, struck out 13 and surrendered one unearned run.?It was a great outing by Michael today,” English coach Joe Caponigro said. “Michael was in complete control all game, and he worked from ahead of the count with just about every hitter. Daly?s pitching line was unorthodox (7 innings, 0 hits, 13 strikeouts, 4 walks, 2 wild pitches). Marblehead was down 3-0 going into the bottom of the fourth, but the Magicians answered with six runs in the fourth to take a 6-3 lead. Leading the way for the Marblehead offense was Tommy Koopman (2-4, 2 runs scored), Beau Dana (2-4, 2 runs scored) and Daly (2-4, run scored, RBI).Arlington Catholic 1, Fenwick 0At Arlington Catholic, Fenwick (0-3) pitcher Tommy Parsons kept the Arlington Catholic offense quiet throughout, except in the fourth inning. Parsons loaded the bases with no outs. Parsons struck out the next two batters. With two outs, Arlington Catholic hit a line drive that Fenwick could not handle, which ended up being the game-winner. Fenwick did threaten in the top of the seventh after a one-out triple by Will Vigneron, but he was stranded. Parsons had a strong performance (6 innings, 7 strikeouts, 2 hits, 2 walks, 1 unearned run).Danvers 10, Swampscott 2At Danvers, the Falcons (3-0) led 4-0 through the first four innings. Danvers had a six-run fifth inning to break the game open. Andrew Olszak led the way for Danvers (3-4, 3-run home run). Jordan DeDonato chipped in with two hits and an RBI for the Falcons. For Swampscott (0-2), Jake Cooper went 3-3 with two RBI.St. John?s 5, Xaverian 0At Xaverian, St. John?s sophomore pitcher Evan Roberts silenced the Xaverian offense. Roberts threw a complete-game two-hitter, and struck out five. Leading the way for the St. John?s offense was Max Burt (2 hits, 2 RBI).Austin Prep 9, St. Mary?s 2At Austin Prep, the Spartans (1-1) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Austin Prep scored two runs in the bottom of the first and second to take a 4-1 lead. Austin Prep scored four runs in the third, and St. Mary?s could never recover. The Spartans had strong performances at the dish from John Gaeta (2-4, run scored) and Paul Halas (2-3, run scored).Revere 8, Beverly 7At Revere, the Patriots (1-0) had a commanding 7-3 lead going into the final inning. Beverly tied the game 7-7 in the top of the seventh, but Patriot Dylan Kalloch hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh for the win. Tommy Portrait, Michael Ciambelli and Steve Selevitch had major contributions at the plate for Revere.Lynnfield 8, Georgetown 5At Georgetown, the Pioneers (1-0) benefited from a strong performance by junior righty Greg Basilesco, who allowed six hits, struck out two and only gave up one earned run. Nick Pascucci came on in relief (2 hits, no earned runs).Lynnfield put six runs on the board in the first inning. Dan O?Leary was hit by a pitch, driving in the first run. Travis Briana brought in another on a fielder?s choice and Nick Pascucci had an RBI double. Left fielder Jake Rourke (2-run single) and designated hitter Tony Costa (RBI single) accounted for the other three. Lynnfield added a couple more runs in the seventh on an RBI single by Briana and Spencer Bailian.
