Baseball: Lynnfield wins in ninth

Jack Fraulini laced a single to left in the bottom of the ninth to give the Lynnfield High baseball team a 5-4 win over Amesbury at Lynnfield Thursday.Fraulini went 3-for-4 with a couple of nice catches in center field.The Pioneers (2-0) took a 4-3 lead on an RBI single by Dave Johnson, but Amesbury tied it 4-4 in the seventh. Amesbury had a runner on second in the eighth, but left fielder Jake Rourke made a diving catch and doubled a runner off to end the inning. Rourke led off the ninth with a single and his pinch runner, Drew McCarthy, scored on Fraulini?s single.Johnson pitched the first six innings and left with a lead. Andy Carbone pitched the seventh and eighth and Nick Pascucci went the ninth and got the win. Tony Costa had a big sacrifice bunt in the ninth to advance the runner and Ryan Battaglia had an infield single to keep things going for Fraulini.Fenwick 7, Spellman 5At Fenwick, the Crusaders (1-3) trailed 5-2, but scored four runs in the fifth with Jake Baressi?s pinch-hit single scoring the go-ahead run. Matt Townsend and Will Vigneron also had RBI singles that inning.Junior righty Matt Haley (first varsity appearance on the mound) got the win in relief with 3 1/3 innings of shutout ball. He allowed one hit and struck out six. James Delisola started and went 3 2/3 innings.Revere 7, Salem 6At Revere, the Patriots (2-0) trailed 6-2 but rallied for a four-run sixth, and tied it on Dylan Kalloch?s RBI single. In the bottom of the seventh, Revere?s Chris Chardio drew the game-winning bases-loaded walk. Winner Tommy Portrait pitched all seven innings for Revere.St. John?s 9, Cen. Catholic 3At St. John?s, Eagles (3-1) starter Justin Snyder got the win (5 innings, 5 strikeouts, 1 hit, 2 runs). The Eagles offense was led by Ted McNamara (3-for-4, 2 RBI) and Sawyer Billings (2 hits, 3 RBI).
