The Classical softball team pulled one out of the fire Friday at Grace Rogato Field.With the scored tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh and runners on first and second with one out, Classical catcher Gabbie Kenniston ripped a single up the middle, scoring Jen Ierardi with the game -winning run. The 3-2 win puts the Rams at 3-0.”This was a great win for us,” Classical coach Chris Warren said. “Beverly was a great test for us today, and we played terrific.”Classical (3-0) , down 2-0 going into the bottom of the fifth, scored one run each in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. Starting pitcher Ivy Martin set the stage for the Rams’ comeback. Martin gave up a home run in the fourth, and went on to retire the last 12 Panther batters (7 innings, 6 strikeouts, 4 hits, 2 runs). Leading the way for Classical was Kenniston (2-for-4, 2 RBI), Kathy Perez (2-for-3, RBI) and Franki Galeazzi (2-for-4, run scored). Olivia George (1-for-2, run scored) and Kate Silvestri (1-for-3, solo home run) had strong performances. for Beverly.St. Mary’s 7, Matignon 0At Matignon, St. Mary’s (2-1) starting pitcher Mia Nowicki silenced the Matignon offense (7 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 4 walks, 11 strikeouts). The Spartans had a six-run third inning to put away Matignon early. Leading the way for the St. Mary’s offense was Molly Doyle (2-for-3, 3 RBI) and Jennie Mucciarone (2-for-3, RBI). St. Mary’s plays Williams Monday.Marblehead 3, Gloucester 0At Marblehead, Michaela LeBlanc (7 innings, 2 hits, 6 strikeouts, 0 runs) kept the Fishermen off balance all afternoon. Marblehead’s Emily Messinger (catcher), Sara Bornstein and Rachel McKay had two hits apiece. Messinger also threw out a runner to lead Marblehead (2-2) to an error free game.Pentucket 10, Saugus 2At Pentucket, the Sachems (1-3) were tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the fifth inning. Pentucket had a six-run fifth to blow the game open. Leading the way for Saugus was the duo of Brooke Westmoreland (3-for-4, RBI) and Jessica Allen (2-for-2, run scored). Saugus plays Newburyport Wednesday.Amesbury 9, Lynnfield 7At Amesbury, the Pioneers (1-2) were down 8-0 going into the top of the fourth inning. Annika Han hit a two-run home run to cut the deficit to six (8-2). Lynnfield had a four-run sixth, keyed by a Hannah Travers solo home run and a Malia Roberto two-run home run. Amesbury scored an insurance run in the sixth, and Lynnfield could not make up the difference. Lynnfield plays East Boston Monday.
