St. Mary’s reflects on excellent hockey season

LYNNFIELD – oaltender Bailey MacBurnie was presented with the team MVP award Thursday night at the St. Mary’s boys hockey banquet.MacBurnie, who backboned the team to a Division 1A “Super 8” appearance as a soophomore, left the school for his junior year but came back for his senior season.In 23 games, MacBurnie registered a 1.75 goals against average. He also spearheaded the Spartans to a 12-1-3 record after a 1-3 start.MacBurnie also was The Item’s player of the year.Jordan Manthorne, a senior, received the Martha Ferrari Award and Chris Price got the Patrick Reddy Award, named for the former St. Mary’s player who died in an auto accident in 2007 while playing for Bridgeton Academy.Other awards went to: Andrew DiMaiti, coaches; Chris Donovan, whose goal in a lengthy shootout won a tournament game against Winchester, received the “Shootout Award; Ryan McManus, Don “Buff” Bastarache; Ryan Borders and Connor Jennings, Ironmen; Austin Frankel, most versatile; Shawn MacBurnie, Top Offensive Player; John Powers, Moe Carroll; Joe Scalli, Most Dedicated; Clay Yianocopolus, Most Improved Forward; Jackson Allard, Sportsmanship; Connor Foley, Seventh Player; Andrew Kreamer, Spartan Pride; Dante Maribito, Rookie of the Year; Eric Pedro, Mr. Hustle; Max McKay, Top Defensive Player.Varsity Awards went to Rick Calvani, Ryan Clark, Mike Desmond, Zack Mello and Nico Scalli.Captains for next year are Shawn MacBurnie, John Powers, Joe Scalli and Clay Yianocopolus.
