Potential work at Weylu site concerns residents

SAUGUS – Eustis Street resident Bobby Camuso said more rumors of possible developments on the Weylu property were making he and his neighbors nervous.Camuso told the Board of Selectmen that after hearing developers were set to build an Ikea store at the site, he worried that construction trucks would soon be using Eustis Street to access the property. Camuso said he and other neighbors were “under the impression they live on a dead-end street,” though Town Manager Scott Crabtree told him, according to the town, it was considered a throughway.Crabtree agreed to allow the board to seek independent counsel for an additional opinion on whether Eustis Street is in fact a dead-end. The board made a motion to follow through on that action.Selectman Ellen Faiella said she would be meeting with Revere Mayor Dan Rizzo on other matters this week but would make a point to bring up the Saugus/Revere border. “This does concern a Revere street, too,” she said.Selectman Maureen Dever said it was “extremely disturbing” that five months have gone by with no more information on the Weylu property?s progress. “Rizzo seems to have quite bit of information, and we have been asking,” she said. “We need to start getting information.”Faiella told Crabtree that she wanted the board to be copied on the correspondence concerning the development of that site so they could be informed of what was going on.?It?s like the Hilltop – until they have something, no one wants to share information,” said Crabtree. “The challenge is obtaining any information.”Camuso told the board that there was a new website and Facebook page dedicated to the subject, SaveEustisStreet.com. The site describes itself to be “a resource for Saugus residents concerned about the Caddy Farms/Weylu?s Development,” with updates in the form of news articles, Board of Selectmen videos and photos of the street and its proximity to the site.Dever said she was saddened to hear of the website.
