LYNNFIELD – A Lynnfield native has been found dead in Nicaragua three days after disappearing from a resort after a mission trip.Karen Colclough, 37, who most recently lived in Wyoming, disappeared Friday evening from the Barcelo Montelimar resort near Montelimar, Nicaragua, while on a church mission trip. Her body was found Monday evening about a quarter mile from the resort, according to reports.”We are devastated to learn of Karen’s passing and extend our heartfelt condolences to Karen’s parents, family and her remarkable circle of friends – all who love her deeply,” a statement on the Agros International Facebook page read. The nonprofit organization led the mission trip to help farmers in Tierra Nueva, Nicaragua. “May the Lord bless and keep Karen in His embrace as He comforts and strengthens those who mourn her.”Colclough and five other members of the Presbyterian Church of Jackson Hole were at the resort for a debriefing following their week-long trip. Colclough was last seen planning to go for a run on the beach around midday Friday. She did not join the group for dinner that night and authorities began searching the area.Stateside, the Colclough family and friends disseminated word of the search via social media.”Although the outcome was not as we hoped, the volume of people who helped bring this issue to the attention of the media and politicians was astounding,” a statement on the Find Karen Colclough Facebook page read. “We believe this is how and why her body was recovered at all – the world just wouldn’t sit back and wait to see if she turned up – they aggressively searched for her.”The post referred to the incident as a murder, and WBZ-TV cited Colclough’s mother as saying she was told a suspect was in custody. This could not be confirmed, however. A pastor with the family referred media questions to Agros, which referred questions to the U.S. Embassy in Managua, Nicaragua. The embassy could not be immediately reached for comment.Colclough’s family and friends all had described the young woman as caring, compassionate and dedicated to others.?You couldn’t ask for a better daughter,” Janet Colclough, Karen’s mother, said Sunday in an interview with The Daily Item.
