Roundup: Classical softball bounces back against Salem

The Classical High softball team righted the ship after a loss to Revere earlier this week with a 6-3 win over Salem at Mack Park.Classical scored a run in the first inning and one in the second, but the Witches came back to take the lead with three in the third. Classical tied the game in the third and that?s how things stood until the bottom of the sixth when the Rams, fueled by a Jen Ierardi (hit, 2 RBI) pinch-hit two-run single, put three on the board. Kathy Perez (single) and Shannon Magner (walk) scored on the hit.Perez finished with a hit and two runs scored. Gabbie Kenniston had an RBI single and pitcher Ivy Martin went 2-for-4 with an RBI.?The conditions were brutal — for both teams,” Warren said. “Ivy Martin was the difference (pitching) today. She toughed it out. She worked hard. They did a good job getting back on track when they got down.”Fenwick 10, Austin Prep 3At Bishop Fenwick, the Crusaders (2-2) had some impressive performances at the plate. Junior catcher Gaby Hart went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and four RBI and designated hitter Charlotte Powers had two hits and an RBI. Jen Crovo (2 hits, 3 runs, RBI) also helped out.Natalie Moore (7 innings, 4 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned runs, 3 strikeouts, 4 walks) got the win.Danvers 6, Marblehead 1At Marblehead, Olivia Vener singled, stole the next two bases, and scored on a passed ball to give Marblehead a 1-0 lead in the fifth, but Danvers scored two in the sixth and four in the seventh for the win.BOYS TRACKSalem 81, Classical 55At Manning Field, the Rams had wins from Jordan Brown in the high jump (5-10) and A.J. Bradbury, javelin (125-6). Brown?s jump qualified him for the states and Renzo Pappaterra?s 11.2 in the 100 qualified him for the states as well.The Rams also had wins from Alex Pedro, Ezekiel Ebieshuwa, Pappaterra and Chandler Laguerre in the 4 x 100 meter relay (46.4) and Johann Salvador, Ahanna Ugorgi, Gilley Karambas and Bradbury in the 4 x 400 relay. Jon Crimble was a one-man wrecking crew for Salem with wins in the 100 (10.9), the 200 (22.9), the long jump and the triple jump (41-0). Joel Nunez won the 400 meter hurdles (64.9); Anand Patel, 2-mile (11:04); Shawn Small, mile (5:22); Jerry Canada, 110 hurdles (15.1); Jonathan Swasey, 400 meter dash (55.2); Peter Duffy, 800 (2:17) and Chase Duffin, discus (101-11).Peabody 103, Beverly 19At Peabody, the Tanners (2-0) had some excellent performances including junior Anthony Christo?s winning throw of 48-2 1/2 in the shot put. Christian Cedullo won the 400 hurdles (59.6); Victor Teixeira, 100 (11.2); Riley Dowd, mile (4:55); J.R. Rodriguez, 100 hurdles (18.0) and freshman Moisse Irizzary, the high jump (5-8).GIRLS TRACKSalem 73, Classical 63At Manning Field, the Rams took first in several events. Soraya Auguste won the shot put (26-8 1/2); Rebecca Potter, long jump (14-5 1/2) and the 200 meters (28.1); Kaylee D?Eon, discus (63-1); Mary Jok, high jump (4-6); Jen Gaudet, 400 meters (65.4) and Gaudet, Potter, freshman Devyn Astuccio and sophomore Jasmine Castro, 4 x 100 relay (56.6).Beverly 70, Peabody 56At Peabody, the Tanners (1-1) took one on the chin despite winning performances from Cynthia Aroke in the long jump (15-3 1/2); Kat Pence, shot put (31-3 1/2) and Anna Church, discus (82-3). Aroke also took second in the 400 meter hurdles.
