Tennis: Swampscott boys prevail over Classical

The Swampscott boys tennis team pulled out a 3-2 win over Classical Thursday at Kings Lynne, with second doubles coming up with the deciding point.Daniel Jacobson and John Ruzk won 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (7-4) in the second spot to lift the Big Blue to a 3-3 overall record, 3-2 NEC. Swampscott got its other two points from Ian Crimmins, second singles, 6-2, 6-2, and Erick Eaton-Mike Pindrus, first doubles, 6-1, 6-1.Classical?s Calvin Cheung won at first singles, 6-4, 6-2, and the Rams (2-3) took third singles by forfeit (Swampscott was short players).Austin Prep 5, St. Mary?s 0At GEEAA Field, the Spartans (4-2) couldn?t do much against the Cougars, who won the first meeting 5-0 as well. Noah Camelo and Conor Foley played well at first doubles, losing 2-6, 6-1, 2-6.Fenwick 4, Spellman 1At Brockton, the Crusaders (3-4) had wins from Zach Mutti, second singles, 6-3, 6-4; Connor Adams, third singles, 6-1, 6-1; Alex Baker-Joe Dorazio, first doubles, 6-1, 6-0, and Ryan Trott-Ty Mirra won 8-3 at second doubles.Beverly 4, Revere 1At Revere, freshman Mathew Lopez won 6-4, 6-3 in third singles (his first singles win). Ryan Tran lost 0-6, 2-6, at first singles; Satyak Som lost love-love at second singles; Kont Lumaj-David Grujic lost 2-6, 0-6, at first doubles and in their first match, Naveed Jabbar and Mustafa Ahmed lost love-love. Revere is 0-3.Marblehead 3, Danvers 2At Marblehead, Dmitri Vlassov won in straight sets in third singles over Jimmy Cunningham, 6-1, 6-0; the first doubles team of Griffin Butterfield-Justin Faia beat Kevin Hodgkins-Zach Noring, 6-0, 6-0; and Jason Frost-Michael Forte took second doubles, 6-4, 6-0, over Chris Shalkoski-Brian Daly. Danvers got a win in second singles by Torma Nabokin, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4), over Miles Barry, who had two comebacks before falling; and Nick Lisichenok defeated Chris Wigglesworth, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, in first singles.GIRLS TENNISSwampscott 5, Classical 0At Swampscott, the Big Blue (3-1) had 6-0, 6-0 wins from Anna Raptunovich and Veronica Pyatigorskaya at first and second singles, respectively. Jessica Zolott won 6-1, 6-0, in the three spot. The doubles matches were very competitive with Anya Peterson-Sara Cunningham edging Classical?s Linda Khuth-Katrina Syrakos, 7-6 (9-7), 6-4, in the one spot and in the most exciting match of the day, Chelsey Podtseld-Michele Shnayder defeated Shea Dunnigan-Brianna Silva, 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 in a tiebreaker. Classical is 1-3.Marblehead 5, Danvers 0At Danvers, the Magicians (2-1) had wins from Kelly Mealey, first singles, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4; Julia Channing, second singles, 6-0, 6-0; Lily Frontero, third singles 6-0, 6-0; Amanda Gilberg-Meagan Hanratty, first doubles, 6-0, 6-0, and Alice Yufa-Hannah Cohen, second doubles, 6-1, 6-1.Medford 4, Revere 1At Medford, the Patriots (1-4) picked up their lone win at second doubles where sophomore Nicole Muniz and junior Krystal Burbank won 6-4, 6-4. Yesenia Mazo lost 4-6, 1-6, at first singles, Andrea Rueda, 1-6, 2-6, at second singles; Cassidy Hernandez, 4-6, 0-6, at third singles and Leila Darouey and Lyba Khan at first doubles, 0-6, 4-6.
