The Classical High softball team got off to a rough start in its first two games at Disney World?s Wide World of Sports.The Rams dropped their first two games on Saturday, losing to Waterford, Wisconsin, 6-2, and to Piqua, Ohio, 7-0.Waterford jumped out to a 4-0 lead and Classical never recovered.?We got a burner on the mound,” coach Chris Warren said. “She was a really tough pitcher. She was a lefty and she just overpowered us (13 strikeouts).”Warren said his team played great defense and got the game close at 4-2 in the sixth inning, but Waterford scored two in the bottom of the inning to pull away for good.Ivy Martin (2-for-3), Kathy Perez (2-for-3) and Gabbie Kenniston (hit, RBI) accounted for the bulk of the Ram offense. Martin took the loss in the circle, allowing 13 hits, walking two and striking out one.In game two against Piqua High School, the Rams had some defensive woes early on and couldn?t bounce back. Piqua scored five unearned runs in the first inning. Although they held Piqua to only two runs the rest of the way, the Rams never got the bats going. Classical only had three hits (Perez, Jillian Strileckis and Jen Ierardi). Martin took the loss, allowing seven hits, striking out three and walking one.The Rams (4-3) are back at it today when they face a familiar foe in Danvers, which is also in Florida for the week.The Falcons won their opening game 15-0 in a mercy rule game that only lasted 40 minutes. Classical will play again on Tuesday (another team from Wisconsin).BASEBALLPeabody 18, Fenwick 3At Peabody, the Tanners? monstrous third inning, which featured nine runs on eight hits, allowed them to pull away en route to a six-inning win.Peabody got big days from Matt Correale (4-for-5, 4 runs, 3 RBI), David Hoar (3-for-3, 2 runs, 2 RBI) and Mike Petrosino, who had two hits, including a solo shot to go along with two runs and two RBI.Matt Moorer (2-0) was credited with the win after relieving David Apostolides, who failed to qualify for the decision after three innings of work. Correale pitched a 1-2-3 sixth to cap things off.Fenwick got two hits and a run from Nick Bona in the game, which was tied at three after two and a half innings.
