The Classical High softball team’s 6-1 win over Danvers Monday at Disney’s Wide World of Sports couldn’t have come at a better time.The Rams were feeling the heat after losing their first two games in Florida on Saturday and needed a win to get back on track. They not only got the win, but they did it in convincing style against a perennially tough Northeastern Conference South team.Classical got on the board in the second inning when Gabbie Kenniston singled and ended up scoring on a Jill Strileckis double. The Rams added three more runs in the third inning with Madison Angelli (2-for-3) getting things going with a single. Franki Galeazzi sacrificed her to second and she scored on an RBI double by Ivy Martin (2-for-4, 3 RBI).The Rams (5-3) kept the heat on with back-to-back doubles by Kenniston, who scored Jessica Perez, and Strileckis, who drove in the fourth run of the game. Classical scored two more runs in the fifth inning on an RBI double that scored Galeazzi and Kathy Perez, who had both reached on singles. Danvers lone run was unearned.”This was a huge win for us,” Classical coach Chris Warren said. “After two losses in this atmosphere … to have a win in a league game, against a strong league opponent (was huge).”Martin picked up the win, allowing three hits, striking out one and walking three. Danvers pitcher Kendall Meehan took the loss, allowing 11 hits and no walks.”Ivy pitched incredible,” Warren said. “When she hit a bump in the board, her changeup started to work.”Classical will play its final game of the Florida trip today against a team from Wisconsin.Peabody 3, Revere 2At Peabody, Shelbi Wilson earned the win in the circle for the Tanners, striking out 12 batters while allowing just three hits. Peabody (3-2) got productive days at the plate from Ashley Jenkins (2 rbi) and Ashley Ghostlaw (rbi) who both finished 2 for 3.Marblehead 11, Triton 0At Marblehead, the Magicians got three hits apiece from Elaine Kapoll (3 rbi) and Rachel McKay (2 rbi), to back the pitching effort of Michaela LeBlanc who allowed five hits while striking out three.GIRLS TENNISPeabody 4, Beverly 1At Peabody, the Tanners swept in singles action with wins from No.1 Rachael Gillis (6-3, 6-0), No.2 Kayla Hodas (6-2, 6-3) and Dany Chhan (6-3, 6-4) at No.3. Peabody (5-0) got a victory at first doubles from Anna Grimalyak/Eleni Petronelis (6-0, 6-4) while the Panthers’ second tandem of Danielle Tetrault/Allison Lewandowski won 6-4, 7-6. Beverly drops to 4-2 on the season.Lynnfield 5, Amesbury 0At Lynnfield, the Pioneers improved to 4-0 behind a 6-0, 6-0 victory from Sarah Mezini at first singles. Lynnfield’s other singles wins came from Kelley Nevils (6-0, 6-1) and Katie Nevils (6-1, 6-0) while their doubles tandems of Danielle Soden/Olivia Skelly (6-3, 6-1) and Melanie Richard/Rachel Maglio (6-1, 6-0) cruised as well. The Pioneers travel to Saugus on Wednesday (10)BOYS TENNISLynnfield 4, Amesbury 1At Amesbury, the Pioneers were led by doubles victories from the tandems of Ethan Forrest/Will Durkee (6-0, 6-1) and Sam Forrest/Sheryas Krudomati (6-1, 6-3). Lynnfield (3-2) got singles wins from No.1 Luv Karia (6-0, 6-1) and No.2 Joe Crowther (6-1, 6-3). The Pioneers travel to Triton on Monday (3:30).BOYS LACROSSEPrep 17, Beverly 14At Beverly, the Eagles hung on in a back and forth despite a furious rally that saw Beverly’s Nick Albano (2 assists) tally five straight goals to tie the score at 11 heading into the fourth quarter. The teams would trade goals in the final period until the Prep added three late goals to seal the win. The Panthers got five goals and an assist from Matt Page as well as 23 saves on 40 shots from Kevin Lally.
