Roundup: Classical girls tennis team earns shutout win over Somerville

The Classical High girls tennis team defeated Somerville, 5-0, Tuesday at Tufts University.The Rams (2-3) had a few new faces in the lineup. Anna Athanasopoulos won at first singles, 6-4, 6-4; Kayla O?Brien at second singles, 6-4, 6-2, and Meredith MacDonald, 6-0, 6-0, third singles.In doubles, Linda Khuth and Briana Silva took a three-setter in the first spot, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, and newcomers Jacquelyn Wilson-Lizzie Troisi won their first varsity match, 6-2, 6-3, at second doubles.?I was pleased with the overall performance,” Classical coach Cathy Ellis said. “It was nice to get a win.”Medford 4, Revere 1At Revere, Cassidy Hernandez got the win for Revere, taking her third singles match 6-1, 6-2. Although the Patriots lost the remaining matches, they were very competitive. Sara Grujic lost at first singles, 6-7 (4-7), 1-6; Andrea Rueda, second singles, 6-3, 4-6, 1-6; Leila Darouey-Lyban Khan, first doubles, 4-6, 2-6, and Alejandra Escobar-Nicole Muniz, second doubles, 6-7 (3-7), 4-6.GIRLS TRACKM’head 97, Classical 25At Marblehead, Monica Thorne remains undefeated in all four of her events. She took first in the 200 meters (26.16), long jump (15-3), triple jump (31-11) and was leadoff on the winning 4 x 100 relay. The other Marblehead winners were Carlyn McGrath, 400 meter hurdles (73.25); Janaya Randall, 2-mile (11:30); Alyssa Nye, 100-meters (12.9); Anna Barrell, mile (5:43); Sarah Peach, 400 meters (67.33); Maura Honan, 800 meters (2:38); Julia Lothrop, shot put (28-11) and the javelin (93-2), and Mary Leggett, discus (82-1).The Rams (0-4) had a win from Devyn Astuccio in the 100 meter hurdles with a state qualifying time of 16.98. She also took second in the triple jump (27-11). Freshman Agnes Bangura took second in the 100 meters (13.1) and the 200 meters (27.5); senior captain Rebecca Potter, second in the long jump (14-5 1/2) and third in the 200 meters (27.9), and Jen Gaudet, third in the 100 meters with a state qualifying time of 13.2 in the 100 meters. Bangura?s time in the 100 qualified her for the states.Fenwick 77, St. Mary?s 59At Manning, the 2-1 Spartans got four firsts from Zuzu Haefner: 400 hurdles (1:14), 100 hurdles (18.7), high jump (5-1, to qualify for states) and javelin (80-1).Toni Vinciarelli had two firsts: 100 (13.2) and 200 (27.4). She was also second in the long jump (14-4). Rachel Hanlon was first in the triple jump (30-3 3/4).The Crusaders had wins from Madison Camelo, shot put (30 feet); Emma Harrington, discus (75-6 1/2); Lindsey Donahue, long jump (14-7 1/2); Ariana Maida, 2-mile (11:55) and 800 (2:32.8); Merry Pasquale, mile (6:10.8); Caitlyn Parrott, 400 (64.6) and second in the 200. Fenwick also won the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays.BOYS TRACKM’head 86, Classical 50At Marblehead, the Magicians (2-0) won 13 of 16 events with Conrad Rousseau doing some serious damage with firsts in the 400 meter hurdles (59.25), 110 hurdles (15.91), long jump (18-9) and triple jump (38-11).Dan Marino won the shot put (43-7) and the discus (104-8); A.J. Ernst, 2-mile (9:45); Critter Rodts, mile (4:54); Oliver Jacob, 400 meter (56.3); Jon Baker, 800 meter (2:16); Mitch Norcross, high jump (5-10) and Ian McIver, javelin (145-11).Classical swept the 200 meters with Zeke Ebieshuwa, Matt Petrone and Ahanna Ugorgi placing first, second and third, respectively. Renzo Pappaterra won the 100 (10.94) and Alex Pedro, Micah Dublin, Pappaterra and Ebieshuwa won the 4 x 100 relay (46.7).Fenwick 97, St. Mary?s 39At Manning Field, Andrew DiMaiti had two first-place finishes for the 2-1 Spartans, one in the 400 (50.8) and the other in the 500 hurdles (57.3).Other first place finishers for St. Mary?s were Michael Cerulli, 2-mile (11:52); and Tony Mwangi, mile (5:25).The Crusaders had wins from Miles Connor, high jump (5-6) and javelin (134-8); Rufus Rushins, shot put (40 feet); Charlie St. Pierre, discus (99-8); Charlie Maistrellis, long jump (18-4 1/2) and the 200 (23.4); Devin Graham, triple jump (35-2); Ryan Connolly, 100 meters (11
