Selectmen look to fill Cable Advisory Board

April 23, 2014 by ktaylor

SAUGUS – Though it was its first time meeting as a board since the vote to vacate the Saugus television?s board of directors, the Board of Selectmen did not discuss future action on the station?s leadership Tuesday.Chairman Ellen Faiella did announce that the former Board of Directors had legally filed against them, but she revealed only that the selectmen were awaiting a confirmation for a hearing date. The board did announce that it was accepting applications for the town?s Cable Advisory Board, an existing board that is tasked with evaluating contract renewal options with Comcast, not related to the regulation of Saugus Cable Television Station. The town has a contract renewal date in October 2016.?It takes a good year to go through this process and come up with the best possible cable services for the town,” said Selectman Maureen Dever. She added that the last contract lasted 10 years. The board asked for “civic-minded” people to come forward to be a part of the process. The only other mention of the conversion of Saugus Community Television to the Saugus Cable Television Station was from Dever toward the end of the meeting when the board voted to accept the minutes from a previous meeting. Dever asked that a tape of the April 8 meeting, in which the conversion was made, be kept in the selectmen?s office with the minutes for record.
