LYNN – A 15-year-old boy has been ordered held without bail following his arraignment in Lynn District Court Thursday morning.
The boy, identified by police as Kevin Sanchez, appeared before Judge Stephen Abany and was charged with felony murder in connection with last week’s fatal shooting of Amoy Blake of Lynn. A not-guilty plea was entered on Sanchez’s behalf at the arraignment.
Blake’s best friend,Jahleel Sanders Williams, remains held without bail on a murder charge for allegedly participating in an armed robbery in which a 24-year-old man man fatally shot Blake in what police are calling a case of self-defense.
Because Sanchez was also an alleged participant in the armed robbery in which Blake died, he can be charged with murder, according to prosecutors.
Lynn Police responded to a shooting in the first-floor hallway at 192 Washington St. at 12:30 a.m. April 16. Blake, 18, was taken to Union Hospital, where he died of his injuries.
Officials said Blake and Sanders Williams were trying to rob the 24-year-old Lynn man at gunpoint when the man pulled out his licensed gun and fatally shot Blake.
Williams,17, pleaded not guilty the next day in Lynn District Court on charges of attempt to commit a crime, armed robbery; and murder. He was ordered held without bail.
Prosecutors said that since Blake died while allegedly committing a felony, other participants in that felony can be criminally liable for the teen’s death.
Although juveniles, both Williams and Sanchez will be tried as adults in accordance with state law because they are each being charged with murder. The Daily Item staff is working on this breaking story and will have more details as they become available.
