LYNN ? Three Lynn companies joined Salem firefighters in battling a brush blaze that spread out over about 15 acres off Highland Street behind Walmart Thursday.
Lynn Fire Chief Arthur Richard said Salem crews had a tougher time and spent the better part of the day fighting the fire. Lynn only joined in when it shifted over city lines late in the afternoon, he said.
He characterized the fire as extensive, but not an inferno.
?The wind is moving it around pretty good,” he said.
No buildings were in danger at the moment Richard said but fighting the blaze is difficult because the fire is in the woods, which means there is no fire hydrant nearby and no steady water supply.
?We have to shuttle water in,” he said. “It’s kind of lousy to have to fight a fire that way.”Richard said he hoped the crews would have things wrapped up Thursday afternoon but it depended on the wind.
