Softball: Wilson leads Peabody

Shelbi Wilson got the job done in the circle and on the mound for Peabody in a 6-5 win over Marblehead Friday at Peabody.Wilson singled in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning and she got the win, allowing four hits, walking two and striking out three. She went 3-for-3 at the plate including a two-run home run. She finished with three RBI.Peabody trailed 5-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh. Nicole Grafton got things going with a single and went to second on a sacrifice bunt. Ashley Ghostlaw doubled in in to tie the game and Wilson followed with a single, scoring Ghostlaw (2-for-4, RBI) with the game-winning run. Ashley Jenkins was 2-for-3 with an RBI.Michaela LeBlanc took the loss for Marblehead, although she did have a solo home run.St. Mary’s 13, Westford Academy 4At Westford, the Spartans (5-1) scored four runs in the top of the second inning and that was all it took to open the floodgates. Katie Terban hit a ball to left field that was misplayed and the Spartans made it hurt. with the next four batters reaching on hits.Jordan D’Orsi started and went two innings, allowing two run. Mia Nowicki went the remaining five, striking out nine and walking one. Westford’s final two runs came with two outs in the seventh inning.The Spartans had plenty of firepower, with Cassandra LaFauci going 3-for-5. LaFauci was robbed of a home run when she took the first pitch of the game and sent it to center where the fielder leaned over the fence and snagged the ball. Alex Fisher went 2-for-3 with two RBI, Nowicki went 2-for-2 and Tatiana Doucette, 2-for-5.Swampscott 14, English 9At English, the Big Blue (4-2) racked up their fourth consecutive win behind strong pitching from freshman Hannah Leahy, who had six good innings. English fought its way back into the game in the seventh and pulled to within two runs at 11-9, but the rally stalled.Swampscott’s Sam Rizzo was 3-for-4 including a triple. She also scored three runs. Tori Thistle (3-for-3, double, triple, 3 RBI); Danielle Mayblyum (2-for-4, triple, 3-run home run) and Christina King (3-run home run).The Bulldog bats came to life in the sixth inning. Trailing 11-1 with two outs, English scored eight runs to close the gap before Swampscott came back and scored three in the seventh to put the game away.Shanna Zeramby (4-for-4, triple, 2 RBI); Keri Bryson (3-for-4, triple, RBI, 2 runs) and Rachel Calnan (2-for-4, 2 RBI, 2-run home run, 1 run) all did some damage, as did freshmen, Emma Trahant (2-run single) and Taylor Sullivan (single, 2 RBI).Triton 2, Saugus 0At Saugus, pitcher Brooke Westmoreland had good game, allowing only five hits, but the Sachems couldn’t get the bats going. Saugus (1-6) only had two hits (Caitlyn Sheehan and Jessica Allen).Lynnfield 12, Georgetown 4At Lynnfield, Georgetown took a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Lynnfield (5-4) answered with a 12-run bottom of the second, as the Pioneers sent 16 batters to the plate in the inning. Lynnfield’s Hannah Travers had two hits and three RBI in the second. Cassie Keane, Lauren Guerra and Jackie Whalen drove in two runs each for Lynnfield. Leading the way for the Pioneers offense was the duo of Kelly Hosterman, (4-for-4, 2 runs scored) and Travers, (3-for-4, 3 RBI). Pioneers starting pitcher Whalen picked up the win, (7 innings, 4 runs, 1 earned run, 5 strikeouts, 2 walks). Lynnfield plays Pentucket Monday.
