Salem court now in temporary location

SALEM – The Essex Probate and Family Court has moved to a temporary location at the Shetland Office Park on Congress Street while the Federal Street courthouse begins a three-year renovation project, according to state court officials.The Essex Probate and Family Court operated at 36 Federal St. in Salem until Friday afternoon. The court opens today at an interim location at the Shetland Office Park at 45 Congress Street in Salem.The interim location is across the Congress Street bridge from Pickering Wharf. The new location will also host the Register of Probate and the Family Service Office, which is part of the Essex Probate and Family Court. The interim, 36,000-square-foot location also has four courtrooms, two holding cells and a Safe and Secure Waiting Area for victims and witnesses, according to the press release.The interim location has on-site parking and on-site access to public transportation, as the MBTA bus service stops at Shetland Office Park’s main entrance.Mailing information for the court is:Essex County Probate and Family Court45 Congress St. Suite 170Salem, MA 01970.Telephone and fax numbers remain the same.The renovation project at the Federal Street courthouse is estimated to take approximately three years, according to the press release.
