Track: Spartan girls run to victory over Marian

The St. Mary?s girls track team improved to 3-1 with a terrific team effort on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in a 107-27 triumph over Marian at Manning Field.Zuzu Haefner led the way for the Spartans, taking first in the 100 hurdles (18.5) and 400 hurdles (76.4) as well as a top finish in the high jump (5-0) and a runner-up with the javelin (68-2) to teammate Michaela St. Cyr (74-4).The hosts had double winners in Rachel Hanlon and Toni Vinciarelli. The former won in the 400m (69.5) and triple jump (28) while the latter claimed victories in the 200m (27.9) and long jump (14-5).Other Spartan winners included Tia Foglietta in the 2-mile (12:49), Larisa Bogomolov in the discus (86-11) and Sophia Holmes in the 800m (2:49). Hanlon, Foglietta, Holmes and Bridget Cushing won the 4×400 relay with a combined time of 5:18.Fenwick 95, Austin Prep 36Arl. Catholic 69, Fenwick 67At Bishop Fenwick, the Crusaders (4-1) still have a shot at being part of a three-way tie for the Catholic Central League title if they can defeat Cardinal Spellman next week.Lindsay Donahue won the long jump (13-10) and the 400 hurdles (77.7) and Ariana Maida the 800 (2:31.3) and 2-mile (11:40.1) against both teams. Fenwick also won the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays in both meets.Against Austin Prep, the Crusaders also had wins from Maddie Camelo, shot put (29-7); Emma Harrington, discus (68-1 1/2); Katie Buonopane, javelin (75-10 1/2); Becky Woodcock, triple jump and 100 meter hurdles (20.2); Julianna Molina, 100 (13.9) and Alexa Pellegrini, 200 (31.0).S?scott 82, Gloucester 54At Gloucester, Maria Travascio, Mackenzie Faulkner and Aisling Dennehy took two events each. Travascio took the shot put (25-8) and discus (75-even); while Faulkner won the long jump (13-61/2) and 100; and Dennehy won the triple jump (31-2) and 400.Also winning for Swampscott were Shauna King, javelin (84-even), and Sarah Kelly, 400 hurdles. The Big Blue won the 4×100 and 4×400 relays as well.BOYS TRACKMarian 74, St. Mary?s 60At Lynn, the Spartans (2-2) came up short despite a strong showing from Andrew DiMaiti, who qualified for States with victories in the 100m (11.3) and 800m (2:08). St. Mary?s got two wins from Shane O?Neill in the 400 hurdles (72.3) and 100 hurdles (21.5) as well as first place finishes from Patrick Fahey in the discus (72-2) and Fred Blaise in the shot put (28-6 1/2).Gloucester 80, S?scott 51At Gloucester, the Big Blue fell to 2-1 despite a cast of first place finishes including Matt Mahoney?s 10:25 in the 2-mile and Marco Scibelli?s 54.5 in the 400 dash. Swampscott got victories from Justin Chasse in the shot put (47-8) and Aidan Brawley in the javelin (162-3) and a win in the high jump from Dan Woolhiser (5-4).Fenwick 95, Arl. Cath. 37Fenwick 78, Austin Prep 56At Bishop Fenwick, Charlie Maistrellis had a busy day for the Crusaders (5-0) with wins in the long jump (18-8 1/2); the 400 (53.3) and the 200 (23.9) against both teams. Nick Tambini was a double winner in the 400 hurdles (63.7); and the 110 hurdles (17.3); and Miles Conor won the javelin (132-7 1/2) and high jump (5-4). Fenwick also had wins from Rufus Rushins of Lynn in the shot put (37-10); Charlie St. Pierre, discus (99-1); Eric Loehle, 2-mile (11:28.4); Ryan Connolly, 100 (11.9) and Mitch Rivers, 800 (2:17.1).The Crusaders will compete in a CCL freshman-sophomore meet on Saturday at the Catholic Invitational at Bishop Feehan on Sunday.St. John?s 81, Xaverian 45At St. John?s, the 2-0 Eagles got wins from Evan Dombrowski in the shot put (53-0) and discus (143-even); and Josh Nickerson in the triple jump (39-7) and high jump (5-10).Also winning were John Long, javelin (142-1), Mike Mejias, 100 (11.4), Josh Hubbell, 200 (23.2), Joe Luongo, 400 (49.7), Josh Raposa, 800 (2:03.3) and Jamie Catalan, 400 hurdles (62.2) and 2-mile (9:46.7).St. John?s also won both relay races.
