Item Player of Year Bertrand of Saugus commits to Norwich

Item boys basketball Player of the Year Joe Bertrand has committed to Norwich University.The Saugus High senior was instrumental in the Sachems earning a spot in the state tournament this past winter. He finished his high school career with 1,141 points, putting him third on the Saugus High scoring list.Bertrand finished with 847 rebounds, 4.8 assists per game, 90 three-pointers during his senior season (school record) and 150 total career three-pointers, also a school record.Bertrand was a Cape Ann League All-League player and Boston Globe and Boston Herald All-Scholastic. He also was given the IAABO Board No. 130 Award for Sportsmanship and Character and he was named to the Massachusetts Basketball Coaches Association boys North All-Sectional Senior team.Norwich, a Division 3 school, plays in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
