LYNN – A 19-year-old city man was held in lieu of $1,000 bail after police surrounded a Laighton Street home after passing officers said the man pointed an Uzi-like gun at them. The gun turned out to be a paintball gun.Michael Reyes, 19, of 54 Laighton St. #2, was arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, three counts; and carrying a dangerous weapon; on Friday. He was arraigned on the charges Monday in Lynn District Court where a plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf, according to court documents.Police drove past the Laighton Street address at approximately 8:45 p.m. Friday and noticed Reyes leaning out a second-floor window, according to a report by Lynn Police Officer Stephen Withrow.”(We) could see an Uzi-type weapon in Reyes’ left hand,” Withrow reported. “As we passed, Reyes was raising the weapon in our direction and then quickly ducked back in the window out of sight.”Police reported calling backup and setting up a perimeter around the house. Police also began evacuating neighbors from their homes, according to the report.Reyes and two other men came outside about 15 minutes later and were immediately ordered to the ground. Police asked whether the gun was real or fake and a belligerent Reyes denied pointing any gun, according to the report.Police searched the apartment and found a paintball gun, however, under a mattress. Police also recovered five bags of marijuana, according to the report.A prosecutor requested Reyes be held on $1,000 cash bail, according to court documents.A defense attorney said police have a problem with the address and believe Reyes is up to something, according to court documents. Police noted in the report that Reyes is “known to us.”Judge Cathleen Campbell ordered Reyes held on $1,000 cash bail and he is scheduled to return to court May 28.
