Roundup: Saugus baseball wins again

The Saugus High baseball team rang up its sixth win in a row, defeating Ipswich, 7-5, Tuesday at Ipswich.The Sachems, coming off a dramatic 2-1 win over Georgetown in extra innings on Monday, used three pitchers. Kurt Martin got the start and went two innings, followed by Anthony Freni, who pitched into the fifth inning. Joe Bertrand came in during the bottom of the sixth with runners on first and second and Saugus leading 6-2. Bertrand pitched well, allowing only one hit with three unearned runs.Bertrand also had a key hit in the top of the seventh. With the Sachems (8-5) leading 6-5, Bertrand hit a shot down the line to drive in an insurance run. Patrick Murray (double, single, 2 runs) and John Prentice (2 hits, 2 RBI) had big hits earlier in the game.In the win over Georgetown on Monday, Kyle Autilio (4-2) struck out 12 and allowed only four hits. Autilio, a sophomore lefty, has pitched six complete games.Lynnfield 7, Ham-Wenham 4At Lynnfield, Greg Basilesco got the job done for the Pioneers (9-4). He went the distance, allowing seven hits, no walks and three earned runs. He had six strikeouts.Lynnfield struck early, scoring four runs in the first inning. Jack Fraulini led off with a double and scored on a Jordan Roper two-run home run. Travis Briana and Dan O?Leary followed with back-to-back singles and came home on a two-run double by first baseman Spencer Balien.The Generals got one run back in the second but Lynnfield put two more on the board when Fraulini, Nick Pascucci and Roper singled to load the bases. One run came in on a sacrifice fly by Jake Rourke and the other on a fielder?s choice by Briana. Hamilton-Wenham closed the gap to 6-3, but Lynnfield got it up to 7-3 on an RBI single by Tony Costa.Shawsheen 15, Tech 0At Fraser Field, the Tigers struggled with the errors and the Rams made it hurt.BOYS TENNISClassical 3, Salem 2At SSU, the Rams (3-6) had strong play and a winning effort from Alex Chea and David Hincapie at second doubles, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5, and Simon Kazimierczyk and Mehei Bakhouch at first doubles, 6-1, 7-5. Salem had to forfeit third singles due to a lack of players. Classical?s Anthony Ong also had a great match at second singles, but lost 3-6, 6-2, 6-7.Wellesley 3, St. John?s 2At Wellesley, the Eagles (7-3) had a win from Dan Cunningham at first singles, 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) and Nico Limacher at second singles, 6-1, 6-1. Third singles and first doubles went three sets.Beverly 5, Gloucester 0At Beverly, the Panthers swept past the Fishermen to improve to 7-2. In singles action, Beverly got wins from Peter Coletti (6-0, 6-1), Mesaya Okumura (2-6, 6-0, 6-2) and Christian Ayer (6-2, 6-2). The hosts? doubles teams of Connor Irving-Leonard Schulz (6-1, 6-0) and Eno Jahha-Conor Gill (6-4, 7-5) won as well.GOLFSau. 4 1/2, Cohasset 1 1/2At Cedar Glen Golf Course, the Sachems (7-4) had wins from Madison O?Neil at No. 1, 6-3; Brianna McNally, No. 2, 5-4 and Catelin DiGirolamo, No. 3, 5-4. Sophia Cogliano halved her match at No. 4. Julia Daly won 7-2 at five and Emma Caron, 5-4, at six.GIRLS TENNISClassical 3, Salem 2At Classical, the Rams raised their record to 6-4 with wins from Kayla O?Brien at second singles (6-2, 6-1); Katrina Syrakos-Linda Khuth in first doubles (6-2, 6-0); and Janelle Way-Shea Dunnigan in second doubles (7-5, 6-3).
