LYNN – Moved by a discussion on homelessness, the students at Sacred Heart School adopted the BridgeHouse Family Shelter as its Lenten project and collected a vast array of items for people in need.”The Student Council coordinated it all on their own,” said Sacred Heart Principal Joanne Eagan.Danielle Rossewey, a housing specialist with BridgeHouse, visited the Boston Street school and talked to students about homelessness and its effect on families in the area. Eagan said after hearing the presentation Student Council members decided they wanted to help and adopted the organization as its Lenten project. Each week the students coordinated the collection of items BridgeHouse needed.”One week it was shampoo, one week it was cake mixes,” Eagan said. “Every week they focused on something different.”By the end of April, a long table at the back of the auditorium was stacked high with items, while more donations were piled neatly on the floor. Donations included toothbrushes, first aid and beauty products, soaps and party supplies, like cake mixes and cans of frosting, along with dozens of other items all collected by students from students and staff members.”Because the program was so successful, Sacred Heart School’s Student Council members wanted to continue to assist BridgeHouse throughout the year,” Eagan said. “They did a great job.”
