Roundup: Saugus golf inches closer to states

The Saugus girls golf team had no issues in taking care of North Quincy Wednesday afternoon, as the Sachems defeated North Quincy 6-0 at Presidents Golf Course. Saugus is now two wins away from qualifying for the state tournament.The Sachems took all six matches. Maddie O?Neil and Brianna McNally won at one and two, 9-0; Danielle Strangie and Julia Daley each won 7-2 and Jenna Stanopoulos and Emily Caron won at five and six, 5-4. Lexi Lembo won at seven, 5 1/2-3 1/2. Saugus is 8-4.GIRLS TRACKPeabody 94, Classical 42At Peabody, the Rams had several winning performances including Rebecca Potter, long jump (15-4 1/2); Jessica Unubun, javelin (87-5); Agnes Bangura, 100 meters (13.1); Devyn Astuccio, 100 hurdles (17.1); the 4 x 100 relay (52.2) with Jen Gaudet, Potter, Astuccio and Bangura, and the 4 x 400 relay (4:51) with Suzanne Musema, Emily Bucklin, Jasmine Castro and Mary Jok.M?head 95, Winthrop 35At Marblehead, the Magicians (3-0) had nine winners, and were led by double winner Monica Thorne. Thorne took the 200 meters (28.6) and triple jump (31-2). The rest of the winners for Marblehead were: Noey Cox, 2-mile (13:46); Alyssa Nye, 100 (13.2); Janaya Randall, mile (5:22); Paige Ferrucci, 400 (1:05.3); Kat Huber, 800 (2:33); Lily Cummings, high jump (5-2); Faith Ferrucci, discus (84-1) and Julia Lothrop, javelin (102).BOYS TRACKMa?head 120, Winthrop 7At Marblehead, quadruple winner Conrad Rousseau led the way for Marblehead (3-0). Rousseau took the 110 hurdles (15.4), 800 meters (2:09.5); long jump (18-8) and triple jump (38-8). Marblehead also had two double winners in Mitch Norcross and Dan Marino. Norcross took the high jump (5-8) and javelin (141-1), while Marino took the shot put (43-4) and discus (110-11). The rest of the Marblehead winners were: Adam Linsky, mile (4:54); A.J. Ernst, 2-mile (10:08); Brian Neumann, 400 hurdles (1:03.8); Oliver Jacob, 400 (58.4) and Chris Brady, 200 (23.4).Pent. 109 1/2, Lfd. 34 1/2At Lynnfield, the Pioneers? Elias Scangas took first in the 200 meters (23.3), and his time qualified him for states. Lynnfield?s Jonah Rucker finished second in the high jump, but his jump qualified him for states (5-9). Cam DeGeorge took first in the shot put for the Pioneers (36-6).Peabody 112, Classical 24At Peabody, the Rams? Zeke Ebieshuwa qualified for states in the 200 meters with a time of 24.4. Classical had two winners on the day in Gilley Kabamna, 2-mile (10:57) and Jordan Brown, high jump (5-8).
