Tennis: Big Blue boys team wins nailbiter

The Swampscott High boys tennis team pulled out a nail-biter in first singles to defeat Peabody, 3-2, Wednesday at Swampscott.Nazar Babayev just squeaked by in the third set (6-2, 2-6, 6-4) to give the Big Blue the win. The other winners for Swampscott were Ian Crimmins, second singles (6-1, 6-0) and Erick Eaton-John Rizk, second doubles (6-3, 6-4). Swampscott is 5-4.Gloucester 4, Classical 1At Lynn, the Rams (3-7) got their win from Calvin Cheung at first singles, 6-0, 6-3. Despite the loss, Classical had several good matches including Alex Chea and David Hincapie?s 6-7, 5-7 loss at second doubles and Eduard Trirog?s loss at third singles, 6-3, 4-6, 8-11.?It was a very competitive match,” Classical coach Chris Hayward said. “All the kids played well … It was one of our best matches all year.”Lynnfield 3, Ipswich 2At Lynnfield, the Pioneers? (4-4) Joe Crowther at second singles and Mike Romano at third singles both won their matches by the same exact scores in each of their sets (7-6, 6-2). The other winner for Lynnfield was Will Durkee-Ethan Forrest at first doubles (6-4, 6-4).St. John?s 4, Xaverian 1At Xaverian, Nico Lamacher did not drop a single game at second singles for the Eagles (6-0, 6-0).
